Houston Tri Delta Philanthropies, Inc. (HTDP) celebrated the 5th anniversary of the SALE last weekend at Bayou City Event Center and we couldn’t be more proud! This year’s event benefits a pediatric research initiative at The University of Texas MD Anderson Children’s Cancer Hospital (MDACCH). We started the weekend off with a bang at the Breakfast & Bubbly event celebrating our generous corporate and high-level individual underwriters. Nan Kelley, a Tri Delta, cancer survivor and host for the Great American Country television network and the Grand Ole Opry, was the emcee of a moving presentation about the importance of raising funds for pediatric cancer research. Among the speakers at the breakfast were Dr. Richard Gorlick, a childhood cancer survivor and Division Head of MDACCH, and Dr. Zsila Sadighi, also a childhood cancer survivor, doctor at MDACCH and a Tri Delta!
We had over 1,100 shoppers on Day 1 of the SALE scoring great bargains from the over 50 Houston boutiques that participated this year, including the lucky Champagne Shoppers who had first access while sipping champagne and eating light bites donated by BCK: Kitchen and Cocktails, Mastrandos, The Blonde Pantry and River Oaks Donuts before the general public arrived on the scene at noon. Turnout was great on Day 2, as well, thanks in part to our new Sunday Funday, New Year New You panel featuring Estela Cockrell from Switch2Pure, Caroline Knapp from House of Harper, and Marla Murphy from The Blonde Pantry.
We are confident that, with the proceeds of the SALE 2019, we will be able to donate over $260,000 to MDACCH this year — taking the grand total of donations from HTDP to pediatric cancer research over the first 5 years of the SALE over $1,000,000! That is INCREDIBLE!!
This year’s fabulous SALE Team was lead by Co-Chairs Libby Sims and Johnnie Taylor, with Jen Moss serving as President of HTDP.
