Philanthropy and History

The Houston Alumnae Chapter has a rich philanthropic history impacting numerous medical, arts, and educational organizations in the Houston community. Contributions by our alumnae chapter have significantly impacted numerous charitable organizations including Ronald McDonald House, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, The Sunshine Kids, The Briarwood School, and The Periwinkle Foundation. Additionally, proceeds from successful Art Show events were utilized to purchase nine works on paper for the Museum of Fine Arts Houston in the name of the Houston Alumnae Chapter of Delta Delta Delta Sorority.

Since 2001, the Art Show's primary philanthropic focus has been to provide financial assistance to deserving young women for college education and over $374,000 in need-based community scholarships has been awarded to young women from diverse backgrounds who plan to attend a Texas university or college.

Proceeds from the Tri Delta Art Show for Charity fund four-year, two-year, and one-year need-based college scholarships. Applicants are recommended to the Houston Alumnae Chapter Community Scholarship Committee by their high school counselors. Scholarships are awarded to Houston area high school senior women who, without scholarship assistance, would be unable to attend college. Recipients have overcome extraordinary circumstances in their family lives and are both outstanding students and leaders in their high school. TDASC awards scholarships annually and the proceeds are used to cover tuition, fees and books. Funds are sent directly to the recipient's college and scholastics are monitored each semester to confirm our recipients' continued academic success.

In addition to the community need-based college scholarships, our chapter established the Houston Alumnae Chapter Undergraduate and Graduate Scholarships held at the National Delta Delta Delta Foundation. The two endowments were funded in part with proceeds from the Tri Delta Art Show for Charity, Inc. In contrast to the Art Show's community based recipients, these scholarships are awarded to collegiate Tri Deltas at the undergraduate and graduate level.
